Tomsk Polytechnic University is one of the leading and the oldest technical universities in Russia. At present TPU occupies the eighth place in the rating of the Ministry of Education of Russian Federation. University holds the Certificate of the State Accreditation, twelve educational programs have been accredited through the Independent Accreditation Centre, five educational programs and the University on the whole have been certified by the Global Alliance for Transnational Education (GATE, USA). The quality management system has been developed, assessed and registered by National Quality Assurance Ltd. (NQA, UK).

Since its foundation more than one hundred thousand specialists have graduated from the University, over 500 of them have become Academicians, Lenin and State award winners and the winners of other prestigious awards. The bright pages in the history of the University were written by professor Yefim L. Zubashev, one of the forefathers of the higher technical education in Siberia; outstanding Russian geologist, academician Vladimir A. Obruchev; famous aviadesigner Nikolai I. Kamov; academician Nikolai N. Semenov, the Nobel Laureate and by many others.

The University includes 8 faculties, 8 institutes, 3 research institutes and more than 70 scientific-research centers and laboratories. More than 22000 students are educated in TPU, the teaching staff includes more than 1400 lecturers, among them 230 D.Sc. and professors. Engineers are educated in 82 specializations, bachelors in 25 lines and masters in 20 programs.

The students take their studies in lecture-halls, conforming to the requirements of the modern European standards. The TPU campus includes 21 laboratory and academic buildings, 14 dormitories, scientific-technical library with 2,7 million volumes. The University buildings and dormitories are equipped with mote than 3000 computers.

During the last years Tomsk Polytechnic University works out the program of integration in the world scientific and academic society. TPU was one of the first universities in Russia who passed on the multilevel system of the higher education. This system is recognized in the majority of the countries and is one of the important steps toward the recognition of the TPU diploma in the world. Besides, during the last three years The Institute of Language Communication; The British Council Center; The International Center of MBA Programs and Heriot-Watt Petroleum Engineering Approved Support Center were opened in TPU.
